The Guardhouse is ideally located for both sea and freshwater angling.
From early June onwards, the first shoals of Salmon arrive and gather in Uig Bay. Salmon fishing is only available in Uig if you book in advance and get a permit from the local estate managers; you can arrange salmon fishing through Uig Lodge.
Brown trout fishing is mostly free, but permission should, again, be sought from the estates. Simon Hunt is the keeper at Uig Lodge and has been most helpful to our guests in the past. You could try calling on the 'phone in the first instance.
Behind the house is a peat moorland where you will find several lochs in which brown trout can be caught. There are several good spots for rock and shore fishing nearby.
For boat fishing, you can contact the Stornoway Sea Angling Club, Seatrek or enquire at the shop in Timsgarry, where you might be able to arrange for one of the local boats to take you out.
The beach in Aird is good for catching Coley and Pollack.
Stornoway Sea Angling Club is a good source of information and it may be possible for them to take you out on a trip, if you contact them beforehand.
