Half a miles walk from the backdoor lands you in a wild landscape, of moorland, lochs and cliffs. This area has an air of ancient, untamed beauty and if you spend time exploring,  you'll discover the ancient monument  of Tigh a Bheannaich chapel, a cairn, chapel and monastice settlement, built on one of the promontories, which has always been considered a holy place.

Numerous sandy beaches within a 15 minute drive...

A little further away, but still within a short drive of The Guardhouse, the numerous sandy beaches, lochs, moorlands, streams and mountains, make this landscape ideal  for a wide variety of outdoor pursuits.

There's a licensed, Community shop approximately 3 miles from Aird and the mobile shop visits Aird village each Tuesday afternoon.

The nearby Uig Community Centre, which overlooks the three mile long, sandy beach where the Uig Chessmen were discovered, stages a lively programme of events. During the summer months, a cafe and the Uig museum run from here also.
